The Children’s Medical Fund Luncheon began as the Cancer Fund Luncheon in 1989 and 1990 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City. Funds generated by these two events were donated to Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital for the Greek Children’s Cancer Fund and the Kids-n-Cancer Program.

Realizing that this gathering generated enormous interest and success, in 1991, Philoptochos decided to officially name this event the Children’s Medical Fund Luncheon. In turn, it expanded its mission to not only assist young cancer patients, but also provide grants for innovative research programs to pediatric hospitals throughout the United States and to organizations with special programs for children with critical and life-threatening illnesses.

Since that momentous decision, National Philoptochos has presented seventeen Children’s Medical Fund Luncheons. A biennial event, it is held on a rotating basis within the Direct Archdiocesan District and the eight Metropolises of the Archdiocese.

To be present at a Children’s Medical Fund Luncheon is truly a memorable experience.  Each host Metropolis does an amazing job of featuring wonderful emcees, pediatric physicians from all specialties, committed and passionate leaders of non-profit organizations that aid and support numerous child-centric issues, brave parents of children who struggle with difficult diseases, and most movingly, young patients who tell their stories. Tears, joy, love and inspiration are always a part of every Children’s Medical Fund Luncheon.

Since 1989, the Children’s Medical Fund Luncheons have been able to distribute over $4,000,000 in grants thanks to generous sponsors, donors, Philoptochos chapters, and luncheon proceeds.

All Philoptochos stewards should be proud of the tremendous and life-changing outreach of the Children’s Medical Fund Luncheon.

Let Us Rejoice and Embrace the Children
