Effie Moraitakis

Metropolis of Atlanta

Effie Cacavias Moraitakis has been an active member of the Metropolis of Atlanta community her entire life and has served Philoptochos for over 45 years. Born in Macon, Georgia, Effie is the daughter of first-generation Greek immigrants, John and Sia, who instilled in her a deep sense of faith, love, and service from a young age.

A graduate of Salem College in North Carolina, Effie returned to Georgia, where she met her husband of more than 45 years, Nick, at a summer YAL dance in Atlanta. They were married in 1979 at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, where they have remained devoted parishioners.

Effie has served Philoptochos at the local, Metropolis, and National levels. Most recently, she co-chaired the committee for the 25th Biennial Children’s Medical Luncheon committee in Atlanta. In the fall of 2025, His Eminence Metropolitan Sevastianos appointed her President of the Atlanta Metropolis Philoptochos Board.

Nick and Effie have two daughters, Lia and Maria, both of whom were married at the same cathedral, and they are proud grandparents to three grandsons: Easley, Nicholas, and John. Effie is deeply humbled by her recent appointment and is committed to serving Christ and her community in this role.
