In 1979, to commemorate the United National's "International Year of the Child", Philoptochos became an NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) with the United Nations and UNICEF. Through the commitment for UNICEF, Philoptochos donations help this global organization to protect the rights, health and well being of all children.

The UNICEF Committee serves as a liaison for the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society, to UNICEF. The mission of the UNICEF Committee is:

To obtain and disseminate relevant information and encourage the support by Philoptochos Chapters of this National Commitment;

To obtain and disseminate information on worldwide humanitarian issues and to provide funds when needed;

To continue fundraising through our regular drives and to better communicate to the Chapters the scope of this ministry.
