National Philoptochos Board Fall Meeting 2013 - Pittsburgh, PA
The National Philoptochos Board convened in Pittsburgh, PA for their fall meeting on October 11, 2013 at the Fairmont Pittsburgh Hotel.
His Eminence Metropolitan Savas warmly and graciously welcomed to the Metropolis of Pittsburgh His Grace Bishop Sevastianos of Zela, the National Philoptochos Spiritual Advisor, and the National Board.
The well-attended meeting brought women together from around the country to the location of the 14th Biennial Children’s Medical Fund Luncheon. Chaired by National President Aphrodite Skeadas, the meeting included reports from Committee Chairs on the progress of numerous ministries, as well as a glimpse at the extraordinary planning by the Chairs for the 2014 National Philoptochos Convention to be held in Philadelphia, PA from July 6th-10th, 2014. Compelling fundraising efforts throughout the country led by the National Philoptochos Board members, to benefit our brethren in Greece and Cyprus, have been greatly successful. These efforts will continue as each Board member who has not yet participated has pledged to personally sponsor an event.

National Philoptochos Board of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society Holds First Meeting of 2013 in Tampa, Florida
Date: February 1, 2013
New York, NY - Convening for the first time in 2013, the National Philoptochos Board of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society held its winter meeting on January 17 and 18 in Tampa, Florida. In celebration of the New Year and in commemoration of the Feast of St. Basil the Great, His Grace Bishop Sevastianos of Zela, Spiritual Advisor of Philoptochos, after offering the opening prayer cut the Vasilopita and conveyed His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios’ blessings.
National Philoptochos President Aphrodite Skeadas welcomed the National Board and gave a stirring recap of the devastation in the wake of Super Storm Sandy and the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT, both of which called upon the Philoptochos Sisterhood to respond quickly with support and prayer. The Hurricane Sandy relief effort is ongoing as support is still needed by so many whose lives have been dramatically altered by the storm. An Adopt-A-Family program has been established by the National Philoptochos Disaster Relief Committee and is a means by which Chapters throughout the country can offer direct support.
National Board Meeting - Friday, January 18, 2013
Your Grace Bishop SevastianosEsteemed Sisters in ChristDear HelenBeloved Friends,I greet you in sisterly love to the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society’s National Board winter meeting in “sun-kissed” Tampa, Florida. We are blessed once again to be welcomed in the Holy Metropolis of Atlanta under the inspiring leadership of His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios. We miss the presence of Metropolis President Laura Nixon who is recovering from surgery and wish her “perastika”. From this gracious Metropolis, past Philoptochos President Evan Scurtis is thanked yet another time for her most beautiful venue arrangements. This location is only minutes from the airport, is situated beautifully on the bay and the meeting rooms and guest rooms are elegantly appointed. Thank you, Evan.
The Focus of Philoptochos is its Mission
We, the National Board of Philoptochos, for the term 2012-2014, humbly, gratefully and respectfully accept Your Eminence’s charge to represent the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.
We do so in thanksgiving of the Lord’s blessings and pledge our assistance to those less privileged. We shall minister with compassion and dignity to the vulnerable and provide lifting to the disadvantaged and friendship to the disenfranchised.
Our choices and actions on earth will be how we are judged by God to be with Him in the Heavenly Kingdom.
And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me’. Matthew 25:40
The focus of Philoptochos is its mission. We are principled to foster love, endorse good will, and sustain the inherited noble Philoptochos tradition by creating programs in response to newly arisen social crises we face in contemporary society.
