The Mission of the Society
  • to aid the poor, the destitute, the hungry, the aged, the sick, the unemployed, the orphaned, the imprisoned, the widow, the handicapped, the victims of disasters, to undertake the burial of the impoverished persons and to offer assistance to anyone who my need the help of the Church through fund raising efforts; and
  • to promote the charitable, benevolent and philanthropic purposes of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, through instructional programs, presentations, lectures, seminars and other educational resources;
  • to preserve and perpetuate Orthodox Christian concepts and the Orthodox Christian Family, and through them, to promote the Greek Orthodox Faith and traditions, in accordance with its doctrines, canons, discipline, divine worship, usages and customs;
  • to promote the participation in the activities of the Greek Orthodox community, with the cooperation of the Parish Priest and the Parish Council.

Georgia Skeadas Reappointed President of National Philoptochos Society

His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, has announced the reappointment of Mrs. Georgia Skeadas for a third term as President of the National Board of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society which is comprised of over 475 chapters in the United States, and approximately 28,000 members.

Philoptochos Pledges its Support for the Orthodox Children of Ethiopia

At a meeting of its National Board, held at Hellenic College Holy Cross Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Mass., on September 17, 2005, the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society committed its support for a $60,000 project to develop a medical clinic and school in Ambo, Ethiopia to be constructed by International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) in cooperation with the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.

Helping to Rebuild Lives

Philoptochos is committed to providing long term assistance to the Orthodox families victimized by the hurricanes in the Gulf Coast region. The Society's Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund collected over $131,000. Click on to read more.

Bless the Children

At the Tenth National Philoptochos Children's Medical Fund Luncheon held on Saturday, December 3, 2005 at the Westin Galleria Hotel in Dallas, Texas, National Philoptochos President Georgia Skeadas presented, on behalf of the Society, donations in the amount of $25,000 to each of the area hospitals: Children's Medical Center (Dallas, TX); Cook Children's Hospital (Fort Worth, TX); Children's Hospital (Austin, TX); Children's Mercy Hospital (Kansas City, MO), and St. Luke's Children's Hospital (Boise, Idaho).

A $35,000 donation was presented to the IOCC (International Orthodox Christian Charities) to establish a six-room medical clinic in Ambo, Ethiopia focusing on the provision of free medical care and free primary education for HIV and AIDS-infected orphans.

Literacy Outreach Program

This voluntary project addresses the immediate, short, and long-term needs of primarily the Orthodox victims of the Gulf Coast tragedy. The needs are vital, necessary and large beyond imagination. Most of the families have lost everything we take for granted on a day to day basis.

National Philoptochos announces its initiative titled the Philoptochos Literacy Outreach Program. The program's objective is to promote literacy through a "hands-on" approach. This program will target both children and adults.
