2010 National Convention Enthusiastically Endorses Philoptochos Center of Philanthropy
National Philoptochos President Aphrodite Skeadas in her address to the Clergy Laity Plenary Session stated, "I am honored and humbled to announce to this body that, with the blessings of His Eminence, Archbishop Demetrios, the delegates of the 2010 Philoptochos Biennial Convention overwhelmingly endorsed and wholeheartedly pledged their support for the Philoptochos Center of Philanthropy, to be located in Manhattan!! With zeal and enthusiasm, in a positive spirit, we are creating a blueprint for the future of Philoptochos and our philanthropic ministry, "Witnessing our Faith in Christ through Works." Nine Receive AGAPE Awards
The AGAPE Awards (All Generations Accomplishing Philanthropic Endeavors) honor exceptional Philoptochos members and were presented at the 2010 National Convention to the following: Christine Charitis, Direct Archdiocesan District; Georgia Barris, Metropolis of Chicago; Diane Colapietro, Metropolis of Boston; Janet Elfter, Metropolis of Denver; Bella Kontinos, Metropolis of Atlanta; Presbytera Eva Paul, Metropolis of Detroit; Clara Nicon, Metropolis of San Francisco, and Dolly Demetris, Metropolis of New Jersey Click here to read article

National Philoptochos President Aphrodite Skeadas announced 2010 National Philoptochos Convention disbursements of $332, 000 that included funds to the Direct Archdiocesan District and each Metropolis for special medical programs to assist families and children as well as financial assistance to Orthodox Christian senior citizens in need. These disbursements bring the total disbursements for the period of January 1 – July 4, 2010.to $937,958, achieving new levels of giving by the organization and the Chapters.
National Philoptochos also disbursed $2,834,861 for the two year period from January 1, 2008 through December 31, 2009, again reaching new levels of giving.

National Philoptochos partners with IOCC which offers humanitarian support wherever and whenever needed throughout the world. Programs provide monetary, medical and educational assistance.
A major IOCC effort is being undertaken in Ethiopia to help children prevent and treat a debilitating disease called podoconiosis.

National Philoptochos Calls for Membership Participation
National Philoptochos initiated a new communications strategy to reach each and every Philoptochos member with news through a Chapter President's List Serve and a full Membership List Serve. This strategy supports the new Environment Committee and the efforts to "Go Green". The goal is to include all 485 Chapter Presidents and the 27,500 members in order to provide regular email list serve updates. Chapters are encouraged to join the team and be part of this great undertaking!!! Technical support is available to assist in achieving this goal. For more information contact
